What does the Q1 modifier mean?
The HCPCS Level II modifier Q1 means: “Routine clinical service provided in a clinical research study that is in an approved clinical research study”. Append it to a HCPCS or CPT code on the claim line when the payer’s policy calls for it; placement and payment effects are defined by each payer.
