What does the PS modifier mean?
The HCPCS Level II modifier PS means: “Positron emission tomography (pet) or pet/computed tomography (ct) to inform the subsequent treatment strategy of cancerous tumors when the beneficiary's treating physician determines that the pet study is needed to inform subsequent anti-tumor strategy”. Append it to a HCPCS or CPT code on the claim line when the payer’s policy calls for it; placement and payment effects are defined by each payer.
